From robocops to virtual health pods, Dubai is diving head first into artificial intelligence, reports CNN.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government is hosting its first AI summer camp this year and more than 2,000 high school and university students are signed up. Throughout the eight-week camp, students will learn about AI and machine learning from some of the leading companies in the space.

Tarek Saeed of IBM Middle East speaks to the AI talent shortage in the industry and how this type of camp benefits organizations like IBM:

“As these young students learn and understand how to use this technology, we’d be very happy to hire them.”

Additionally, this government-funded initiative is a win-win for Dubai and the companies involved. Minister for Artificial Intelligence of the UAE Omar Al Olama shares, “We want to ensure that at least 1% of these will go and start an AI startup that’s going to be the next Google or the next Facebook.”

Other AI initiatives in Dubai include police robocops that will soon be able to identify criminals on the city’s most-wanted list, an online virtual assistant that can answer questions and pay bills, and medical scan pods that are being placed all over the city.

This is just part of the developing global AI sector that Accenture claims will contribute $182 billion to UAE economy by 2035.

Some of the major brands included are Volkswagen, JPMorgan Chase, Philips, and Panasonic. At these companies, you can work on projects like self-driving cars, efficient banking, adaptive healthcare technology, and computer vision.

Other companies listed are Palo Alto Networks, Affectiva, and Deeplearning.ai. You can expect to be involved with projects such as cybersecurity, emotion detection, and educational training programs working with these brands.
