Microsoft announced they have released their AI assistant, Copilot, to Windows 11 users and that it will be generally available to enterprise customers starting November 1.
Said Microsoft: “Copilot will begin to roll out in its early form as part of our free update to Windows 11, starting Sept. 26—and across Bing, Edge, and Microsoft 365 Copilot this fall.”
Copilot is integrated across Microsoft apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Microsoft says you’ll be able to use it for everything from organizing and accessing information on your computer to analyzing spreadsheet data to creating slide decks.
“This is the one we’ve been waiting for,” Marketing AI Institute CEO and founder Paul Roetzer told me on Episode 65 of The Marketing AI Show.
“The biggest unknown to knowledge work in 2024 is whether or not this works like the demo video shows,” he told me.
So far, Google’s Duet AI, a similar AI assistant across Google Workspace apps, has fallen short of expectations. But Roetzer says he’s heard from some people who have early access to Microsoft Copilot that they’ve been blown away by it.
If Copilot does what it shows in the demo video—things like doing PhD level data analysis, real-time summarizations and action items from meeting notes, creating content based on documents in your cloud, or building a slide deck based on a press release—”it changes knowledge work,” says Roetzer.
