Christopher S. Penn is the Co-Founder and Chief Data Scientist at Trust Insights, an internationally recognized thought leader in marketing analytics and AI. Long before tools like ChatGPT entered the scene, Chris began his AI journey in 2013, working with classical machine learning and developing custom software. Chris emphasized: “Do not let generative AI do math…ever.”
Instead, he recommends giving AI tools the math in its completed form. But that doesn’t mean doing it by hand. There are thousands of free, high-quality performance libraries (like Google’s CoLab) that can be integrated into your workflow to handle the heavy lifting.
Once these components are in place, marketers can use generative AI to turn raw data into focused reports and detailed dashboards tailored to specific stakeholders—helping overcome the data paralysis so many teams face.
In their workshop, Chris and Katie will demonstrate exactly how to build this process using live demos and practical prompts.
Lesson Learned: AI Is Evolving Faster Than You Think
AI technologies are evolving at an exponential rate, and being adopted even faster than expected.
Chris pointed to ChatGPT as an example. In just two years, the tool has progressed from occasionally producing correct answers to outperforming human PhDs in almost every field. He added that we are doubling AI’s capacity approximately every six months.
He explained:
“Every six months, it’s twice as capable. So, if AI can’t do a task today, it might be able to in just six months.”
And we’re still only scratching the surface. The broader implications of AI on industries and society remain largely unexplored. For marketers, the takeaway is clear: staying relevant means staying current with AI’s rapid evolution.
Looking Ahead: The Smartest Investment Is In Yourself
“We used to say that AI won’t take your job,” said Chris. “But with today’s capabilities, they are beginning to erode entry-level work.”
This is a strong impetus for professionals to skill up to meet and exceed the expected outcomes of their job responsibilities. Understanding what AI tools can do in your role makes it easier to meet rising expectations and stay ahead of the curve.
